How can I learn more about you (Freddie Kimmel)?

Several podcast episodes walk through my journey, most notably Episode 21 of the Beautifully Broken Podcast, where I share my story through cancer, chronic illness, Lyme, and more. Keep in mind that episode is several years old. I exist in a far more abundant state of health today, and the story has continued to evolve since.

Illness doesn't define me, but the energetics and mindset I used to move through that experience shape how I operate today. It's created an unbelievable sense of gratitude and resilience. Every sip of morning coffee, every walk outside in the daylight sun, every swim in Barton Springs. It's akin to winning the lottery, if you know what I mean.

I spend most of my time working as a consultant for wellness technology brands like AuraWell PEMF, Flowpresso, and LightPath LED, along with podcasting and speaking, a majority of which gets posted at @freddie.kimmel. What are your favorite devices that amplify health, or biohacking stacks?

I want to gently divorce myself from the word “biohacking.” The idea that there's a shortcut to better health doesn't match my experience. When we use technology well, we're not shortcutting anything. We're amplifying a biological pathway the body already has: the lymphatic system, the circulatory system, innate stem cell production. Neurons that fire together wire together, as Joe Dispenza puts it.

I gravitate toward tools that support the body's own systems and carry some level of entrainment or epigenetic influence, nudging how our biology expresses itself rather than overriding it. It's the difference between supporting the environment around a newly planted flower versus building a scaffold around it, or patching it with a Band-Aid.

That said, I do love technologies that support energy production at the mitochondrial level, what one of my mentors, Dr. Drobot, calls a “cell circuit”: light, magnetism, and oxygen for cellular energy, paired with something to open up the lymphatic system's drainage pathways. Check even one of those boxes and you can go a long way. It's genuinely hard to sort these into four or five clean categories, since something like a lymphatic compression suit and an infrared sauna can both open a drainage pathway for what needs to leave the body.

Can you coach me through chronic illness, or work with me?

Right now, I'm functioning as a wellness concierge for a very select few individuals. My certifications include: functional health coaching through the Institute of Functional Health Coaching (IFHC), with insurance and liability coverage as a coach; biological regulatory medicine and gut health specialization through the Marion Institute; and personal training and movement specialization through the International Sports Science Association (ISSA). I've also done workshops in breathwork, posture alignment, and emotional freedom tapping (EFT). The list goes on.

That said, the majority of my time goes toward consulting for wellness technology companies and creating the Beautifully Broken Podcast. Where I believe I add the most value today is as a patient advocate, educator, and voice for people seeking clarity, not just disease management, and helping people understand the radical role of ownership in their own health. That shows up in hundreds and hundreds of hours of interviews with top doctors, researchers, survivors, inventors, and changemakers on the podcast.

How long did it take you to recover from cancer, and what treatments did you do?

I was diagnosed with testicular cancer in November 2006. It had metastasized to more than nine tumors in my abdominal cavity, including one near the superior vena cava, close to my heart and left kidney. Treatment started with an orchiectomy to remove the primary tumor, followed by four cycles of chemotherapy completed by late spring of 2007. When an MRI showed the tumors hadn't fully cleared, I underwent an RPLND (retroperitoneal lymph node dissection) later that year. I was declared cancer-free in March 2007 and remained clear through 2022.

Even with how late-stage my cancer was, the real severity of my symptoms didn't hit until a year after treatment, when I started experiencing abdominal adhesions, often rushed to the ER with partial or full obstructions, sometimes resulting in additional surgeries in 2011 and 2015. It was in this phase of my journey that I started incorporating functional medicine, biological medicine, and cutting-edge wellness technologies like hyperbaric oxygen, red light therapy, and pulsed electromagnetic fields, just to name a few.

By no means am I suggesting you look at my story and try to build a protocol or path from it. The one true takeaway from the last twenty years is that I was unwilling to live in chronic pain or take painkillers for the rest of my life, so I decided to do something different. I walked through door number three. Not Western medicine, not holistic “woo woo,” but the blend of both that worked for me.

To be clear: nowhere on this website do I sell you “Freddie's protocol” or “Freddie's way” of doing things. Disease presentation is heterogeneous, and it takes practitioners and patient advocates working together to build a program that actually works for you.

I do believe in the good-natured part of human beings and mankind. That said, I've found that some alternative cancer protocols out there, the “Tim Beat Cancer,” “Ben Beat Cancer,” “Carl Beat Cancer” types, are often lacking in real science and can be opportunistic toward people at their most vulnerable.

How did you recover from abdominal adhesions?

This is one of my most frequently asked questions, and the short answer is: it's been a long and winding road. Today, I'm relatively symptom-free. I have a bowel movement every day, and I eat food without pain. If you've experienced abdominal adhesions, that's not a small win.

I've used technology like PEMF and red light therapy to great effect. In fact, the AmpCoil was one of the devices that made the biggest difference on my road to health. Dietary adjustments, systemic enzymes, and manual therapy, through institutes like the Barral Institute and Clear Passage, as well as at-home fascia stretching techniques, continue to move me forward today.

I went from multiple ER visits a year and three adhesion-related surgeries to none since 2015, almost an eleven-year gap I'm grateful for every breath of every day. Adhesions are often a byproduct of surgery and/or physical trauma, and can leave people with long-term chronic pain and even permanent disability. What is your favorite lab test for Lyme disease?

I started having symptoms in 2001 and didn't get a diagnosis until almost 2011. I was ultimately diagnosed through IGeneX, which uses a serological test built on recombinant proteins from multiple Borrelia species and strains, improving specificity without sacrificing sensitivity, and reducing inconsistencies in how test bands are read. It's an investment, but many friends in the Lyme community have finally gotten a diagnosis through IGeneX after being dismissed elsewhere.

Today, there are far more options available. A few higher-end panels I see referenced regularly in the Lyme community:

IGeneX ImmunoBlots: still considered the gold standard for Borrelia detection, now available for Lyme Borrelia, TBRF Borrelia, Bartonella, and Babesia separately.

Vibrant Wellness Tickborne 2.0: a broader panel covering Lyme, TBRF, and an expanded list of co-infections and opportunistic infections, run on their microarray platform.

Armin Labs (ELISpot): T-cell-based testing, often used alongside antibody testing for a fuller picture.

Galaxy Diagnostics: frequently recommended specifically for Bartonella and Babesia via PCR.

None of these testing companies agree on methodology, and even within the Lyme-literate medical community there's real disagreement about which panels are most reliable, so this isn't a case of one clearly “best” answer. Worth discussing with a Lyme-literate provider who can match the test to your specific situation.

What are your favorite binders for toxins?

If you've spent time in the world of Lyme disease or mold recovery, you've probably heard the word “binder.” Binders are natural substances that help capture toxins, including mycotoxins, in the gastrointestinal tract and intracellular space, preventing them from recirculating to the liver, blood, and gut. Common ones include activated charcoal, bentonite clay, chitosan, humic and fulvic acids, and more. There are also companies like Quicksilver Scientific, Cellcore, and BEAM Minerals with real binding capabilities.

There have been times I've leaned into binders heavily during detoxification protocols in my healing paradigm, and times I've taken a break from them entirely. I think they can be valuable, and everyone should know it's possible for them to slow the transit time of food and cause constipation. This is a well-documented side effect, particularly with charcoal and clay. Hydration and mineral support go a long way toward managing that.

That said, binders can be powerful tools in the toolbox for de-burdening environmental toxicants, which we know are a massive problem today. A few examples of what the research shows: in animal feed studies, binders like activated charcoal and clay have shown 50 to 90% adsorption of certain mycotoxins before they can be absorbed. A small human clinical trial found that three months of daily chlorella supplementation significantly lowered hair mercury levels in healthy volunteers. And in dairy cattle, adding charcoal and humic acids to feed reduced glyphosate excretion in urine, though that's animal data, not human.

It's also wonderful to support drainage naturally, through movement, breath, high-fiber foods, and lymphatic drainage.

This is a great opportunity to flag something important, and it's literally throwing money down the toilet if you get it wrong: your drainage pathways need to be open for anything other-than-self to actually leave the body. If you're constipated, dehydrated, and not moving, a binder can be contraindicated rather than helpful. A supplement company is never going to tell you that. This is exactly the kind of thing worth getting clarity on before you spend, and it's something we can work through on a clarity call.

What are your favorite tests for quantifying health?

It's wild to even try answering this in an FAQ in 2026, because this space has changed dramatically. Sometimes, though, this information can lead us in the wrong direction. While I'm a fan of many of these diagnostic methodologies, my belief and experience is that we shouldn't be treating labs, numbers, or results as things to fix on a page. It's helpful to look at the whole body, and doing that through the eyes of a trained practitioner is probably going to give you the best return on investment and value for your dollar.
